Erling Haaland’s second-half goal proved decisive as City secured a precious Premier League win at home to leaders Arsenal.
One of the most eagerly awaited matches of the season didn’t disappoint in what was a tense, high-quality affair at the Etihad.
Rayan Cherki had struck in majestic fashion to open the scoring for City on 16 minutes only for Arsenal’s Kai Havertz to then level affairs within a minute.
City also twice hit the woodwork through Cherki and Haaland with the Gunners also striking the post via Eberechi Eze and Gabriel after the break.
But it was Haaland who conjured up the decisive contribution, the City striker hitting home from close range on 65 minutes to seal victory and move Pep Guardiola’s side to within three minutes of the summit with a vital game in hand.
