City opened the scoring in somewhat bizarre circumstances, when Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena dropped Sergio Gomez’s cross in front of Julian Alvarez who tapped home from a couple of yards.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back before the break with a sweetly struck volley, before Frenkie De Jong added a second for the hosts.

Cole Palme finished off a slick passing move to restore parity, but Memphis Depay did the same to put Barcelona back in front and it looked like it would remain that way until Andreas Christensen tripped Erling Haaland in unfortunate circumstances.

The referee pointed to the penalty spot and Riyad Mahrez confidently converted to ensure the game ended all square.

91, 026 were in attendance at the Camp Nou, with all proceeds going towards aiding ALS research through the Luzon Foundation.
