Pep Guardiola’s men completed the Japan leg of our Asia tour with a late triumph over the Bavarians.
City had taken the lead just after the 20-minute mark when James McAtee tapped home from close-range, but the German champions had threatened earlier on when former City winger Leroy Sane struck the bar from a free-kick.
Bayern drew level through Mathys Tel with ten to play, the substitute smashing home on the rebound after Ederson had made a fine reflex low to his left.
HOW TO FOLLOW CITY’S 2023 ASIA TOUR
It looked like the two sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils until Laporte pounced late on, sparked by a beautifully crafted corner routine which saw Maximo Perrone feed Phil Foden in behind the Bayern defence.
Foden’s initial effort was well saved by Yann Sommer, but the England international had the presence of mind to cut the ball back into the path of Laporte on the rebound, with the Spaniard volleying home from just outside the six-yard box.
It means City have now made it two wins from two matches on our pre-season tour so far after a thrilling 5-3 victory over Yokohama F. Marinos.
