City travelled to Brighton & Hove Albion as champions, having lifted the Premier League trophy at the Etihad Stadium a few days prior.
Pep Guardiola knew the trip to the south coast would not be an easy one, with Brighton looking to secure their place in the Europa League before the final day of the season.
The warm-ups were the calm before the storm as once both teams took to the pitch the atmosphere created by both sets of fans was palpable.
Phil Foden gave City the lead in the 25th minute, courtesy of an Erling Haaland assist, after both teams had ample opportunities at either end of the pitch.
Brighton found an equaliser quickly with Julio Enciso firing a long-ranged effort into the top right corner.

Guardiola’s team continued to push hard for a winning goal, with Haaland finding the back of the net before VAR overturned what would have been the match-winning goal.
But it wasn’t meant to be for City, with the game ending 1-1 and the points shared.
