In the first fixture of the PL2 play-offs - following our first-place finish in the competition’s league phase - City welcomed Liverpool to the Joie Stadium last Friday evening.
The rules for the play-offs are as follows: a winner must be decided on the night. If 90 minutes isn’t enough to separate the two sides, extra-time and a penalty shootout will be used if necessary.
And in the case of Friday’s clash with Liverpool, extra-time was needed.
Divin Mubama gave City the lead on 19 minutes, tapping home the rebound before Tommy Pilling’s goal on 68 minutes levelled the score.
Mubama was once again in the right place at the right time on 107 minutes, nudging the ball into the back of the Liverpool net to confirm our place in the quarter-finals.
