It was on this day 11 years ago Roberto Mancini’s City side thumped Aston Villa 5-0.

City had not lost a Premier League game at the Etihad in almost two years.

And they were not going to let the 35-game run end against Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa, who went on to register 10 wins in the 2012/13 season compared to City’s 23 victories.

Ironically, the excellent home run began against Aston Villa in 2010 but the West Midlands side were also the last team to better City at the Etihad.

Heroic defending by Vincent Kompany set the tone for City to fight hard for another home win, despite Christian Benteke being flagged for offside during the Villa attack early in the first half.

The former Villa striker tested the City defence once again but was denied by a fantastic outstretched hand of Joe Hart.

But nerves were not shaken as City then took the lead through David Silva who managed to tap home the ball after Villa failed to clear the corner kick just before half-time.

Mancini’s side continued to pile on the pressure. Sergio Aguero doubled our lead from the penalty spot before Carlos Tevez added a third in the same manner.

‘It’s a comfortable lead and it’s even more comfortable now’ said the commentators as Aguero bagged his second of the match from a tight angle, catching Brad Guzan completely off guard at his near post.

Tevez got another opportunity to flaunt his dance moves after he tapped the ball in at the back post to make it five after poor Villa defending summed up a difficult day at the office for the visitors.
