In one of the most memorable games in Premier League history, Sergio Aguero’s stoppage time goal sealed a 3-2 victory over QPR and City’s first title in 44 years.
Pablo Zabaleta opened the scoring for City with a shot that QPR keeper Paddy Kenny could only turn on to his post where it rebounded in.
QPR equalised early in the second half through French striker Djibril Cisse before the visitors’ former City man Joey Barton was sent off for an off-the-ball kick on Aguero.
It got worse for City when Jamie Mackie’s header put Mark Hughes’ relegation threatened team in the lead.
With our title rivals United in the lead and a victory necessary to win the league, all hope appeared lost for City until Edin Dzeko’s close range header in the second of five minutes of added time.
Needing a goal in the final three minutes, City immediately regained possession. Aguero collected the ball on the edge of the box and rolled it into Mario Balotelli who lost his footing but still flicked the ball into the Argentinian’s path.
He nudged the ball beyond one challenge and fired a shot in at the near post to send the Etihad Stadium into raptures and crown City as champions.
