It was 30 years ago that Francis Lee became the new chairman of City and it all started with the visit of Ipswich Town to Maine Road.

Lee was a City legend after his exploits in the late 1960s and early 1970s under the great Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison in a wonderful period of success.

He took over the hotseat in February 1994 with his first match being the visit of Ipswich who will play their first ever game at the Etihad Stadium this Saturday at 15:00 (UK).

It didn’t get off to the best start with Ian Marshall seizing on Garry Flitcroft’s badly-judged backpass to put the visitors ahead.

But Carl Griffiths levelled after an amazing assist from the brilliant David Rocastle before Flitcroft made amends for his mistake when he nudged in a second-half winner.
