The Official Man City Podcast (Ad-free)

Episode description

Francis Lee celebrates his 77th birthday today - a good reason to give his Man City podcast interview another airing.

Lee signed for City in 1967, described by Joe Mercer at the time as “the final piece of the jigsaw”.

By the end of his first season, City were crowned champions, with Lee scoring 17 league goals.

He left in 1974 having added an FA Cup, a League Cup and a European Cup Winners’ Cup to his list of City successes. In total, he scored 148 goals in 330 matches.

He retuned to City in 1994, taking over from the much-maligned Peter Swales as chairman of the club. It was a turbulent period, though, and having assumed control with City in the Premier League, he left with relegation to third tier almost certain.

Here, at his home in Portugal, he opens up to Rob Pollard about the effect that time had on him and his family in his first in-depth interview since his time as chairman.
