But the Blues had to wait until midway through the second period before the opportunity to score what would prove to be the only goal.
The referee adjudged the ball to have hit Joao Coutinho’s raised arm in the box and that allowed Raheem Sterling to claim his 100th Premier League goal from the penalty spot.
