The whole game, from start to finish...
Bernardo Silva scored the only goal of the game to give Manchester City a deserved, but hard-earned victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The Portuguese midfielder lashed home from close range in the 62nd minute after Joao Cancelo’s shot deflected kindly into his path to give Pep Guardiola’s a third consecutive victory in the Premier League.

Harvey Barnes hit the bar with a header for Leicester, who also had a Jamie Vardy goal ruled out for offside, but the home side’s moments of promise were few and far between in a contest in which City were vastly superior.

Indeed, Guardiola’s men will have breathed a collective sigh of relief when Bernardo struck, having seen chance after chance saved by the superb Kasper Schmeichel.

The Foxes captain made two stops to deny Gabriel Jesus from point-blank range in the first half, when he was also at full stretch to turn a fierce Bernardo drive round the post, but City didn’t have it all our own way.

With Vardy’s pace providing a threat on the counter, Ederson was smartly off his line to block Barnes’ attempt to steer the striker’s cross home, with Kyle Walker making a crucial block when Wilfred Ndidi attempted to turn home the rebound.

And, in the early exchanges of the second half Leicester looked to make City rue missed opportunities as Barnes hit the bar before Vardy was flagged offside when he raced in between Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte and rounded Ederson, but City quickly regained control.

Ferran Torres sent a golden opportunity into the side netting after an inch perfect through ball from Ilkay Gundogan, but the disappointment proved short lived as Bernardo drilled the ball into the top corner after Cancelo’s low drive dropped into his path after Caglar Soyuncu’s attempt to block.

Brendan Rodgers sent Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho in a bid to rescue a point and it almost paid off as the two combined in a trademark Leicester counter-attack, but Ederson was quickly off his line again to thwart the winger as he pulled the trigger.

MAN OF THE MATCH: BERNARDO SILVA

A third impressive performance on the trot for the playmaker, who has been one of City’s key men in the opening weeks of the season.

Here, he was a brightest attacking threat, causing the Foxes countless problems with both his passing and driving runs.

PEP GUARDIOLA: EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE

“[It was an] excellent performance. After the international break you always have doubts, but the mentality from the players from the first minute to the end was excellent.

“We played well. Unfortunately we could not score more goals, but we were solid.”
