Two English top-flight titans, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, went head-to-head for the final time in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
With City and Liverpool both deep in the race for the title, a win for either team would prove to be a huge upper hand as we enter the final 10 games of the 2023/24 campaign.
City started the game the strongest with Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez coming closest to putting the boys in blue ahead inside the opening 10 minutes.
And after weathering a brief storm by Liverpool, it was John Stones who broke the deadlock on 23 minutes. The centre-back headed home De Bruyne’s corner at the near post to send the away end into a frenzy.
Liverpool posed a much stronger threat in the second half and Darwin Nunez’s relentless running paid off after he was fouled in the box by Ederson after he beat the City keeper to the through ball.
Alexis Mac Allister converted the spot kick to give the hosts an extra boost of confidence.
The remainder of the second half showcased end-to-end nerve wracking football as both sides peppered the goals but to no avail as the score line remained 1-1 when the full-time whistle blew.
