City delivered a superb display to outclass the 10-man Gunners at the Etihad Stadium.
Ferran Torres scored a brace, with Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus and Rodrigo also on target against Mikel Arteta’s side, who had Granit Xhaka sent off for a two-footed tackle on Joao Cancelo in the 35th minute.
At that point, Pep Guardiola’s side were already two goals to the good.
Gundogan nodded in Jesus’ cross at the far post to open the scoring, before the unmarked Torres fired home from six-yards after the visitors failed to deal with a free-kick.
Jack Grealish jinking run down the left gave Jesus a simple finish from close range as City made it 3-0 before the break and it was one way traffic in the second period.
Rodrigo curled a sumptuous finish into the bottom corner from 20-yards after the hosts exhausted Arteta’s men with a trademark Guardiola passing move and Torres complete the rout six minutes from time when he arrived unmarked to glance Riyad Mahrez’s cross in off the post from six-yards.
