Erling Haaland scored twice and came within minutes of earning City all three points if not for a late, late Monaco penalty.

The Norwegian striker opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a deft chip over onrushing goalkeeper Philipp Kohn. The ruthless brilliance was made all the more stark by the fact it was our No.9’s very first touch of the ball.

Monaco responded immediately, with midfielder Jordan Teze curling an unstoppable effort into the top corner.

Haaland restored our advantage shortly before half-time, brushing off his marker and rising high to power a header home.

It looked likely to finish that way until the hosts were awarded a controversial 90th minute penalty when Nico was adjudged to have used a high boot on Eric Dier.

Dier took the penalty himself, sending Donnarumma the wrong way to equalise.
