The Carabao Cup provides the earliest opportunity possible for City to try to attain silverware.

And with Pep Guardiola vocal about the boost winning such a competition can do for the squad when we enter the final stages of 2025/26, City travelled to the holders determined to give us advantage before the second leg.

And our boys in blue did just that.

MATCH REPORT | NEWCASTLE 0-2 CITY

Just like a lot of recent clashes with Newcastle, the latest one provided more end-to-end, feisty, fun football.

Newcastle had the chance to take an early lead at St. James’ Park through Yoane Wissa, but the Magpies’ number nine fired high over City’s bar.

City grew in stature over the course of the game and were finally rewarded on 53 minutes.

Super signing Antoine Semenyo tapped home at the back post for his second goal in as many games following his signing last Friday.

City were denied a second after a tight decision by VAR determined Erling Haaland to be in an offside position when Semenyo volleyed home City’s second.

But we wouldn’t be denied again when substitute Rayan Cherki fired home at the death to give City a vital two-goal cushion ahead of our second leg clash which will take place on Wednesday 4 February.
