The Treble winners began the defence of our league crown away at top flight new boys Burnley in the first assignment of the new campaign.
It represented the first time Pep Guardiola’s side faced the Clarets since our fine 6-0 FA Cup quarter final success in March where Erling Haaland struck a superb hat-trick alongside strikes from Julian Alvarez (two) and Cole Palmer.
And the clinical front man was once again in the thick of the action by scoring twice in the first half against Vincent Kompany’s side, as we made the perfect start to our Premier League season.
Rodrigo then showed his poacher’s instinct after the interval to extend our lead further with a drilled effort from close range after the ball fell at his feet following an in-swinging free-kick.
