The Blues extended our unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign to nine matches in all competitions thanks to goals from Lauren Hemp and Jill Roord.
Just as they had done in this fixture last season, Aston Villa took an early lead against the run of play when Gabi Nunes made a clever near post run and flicked an effort into the far corner past Ayaka Yamashita.
City had been the dominant force before that setback and continued to press forward in search of the leveller with Roord going particularly close before the break.

However, we would have to wait until the hour mark before getting ourselves on level terms.
It was Hemp who duly did the honours, bringing Leila Ouahabi‘s cross under control with her head before cleverly lobbing the ball over her shoulder and into the net past Sabrina D’Angelo.
With Aston Villa’s resistance finally broken, City pressed on for the winner, which duly arrived just eight minutes later through Roord.
The Dutch midfielder picked up play from Hemp after an incredible mazy run from the winger, steadied herself and rifled into the back of the net for all three points.
It was Roord’s first goal since her return from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, and proved the difference as we maintained our spot at the WSL summit.
