Watch City's hard-fought WSL win over West Ham from our unique angle on CITY+.

Goals from Lauren Hemp and Mary Fowler extended our unbeaten start to the 2024/25 campaign in all competitions to five matches and moved us top of the WSL.

City opened the scoring on ten minutes when Hemp picked up play inside the West Ham area, dropped her shoulder to get the ball onto her favoured left foot and fired in at the near post.

It was just rewards for the hosts who had started strongly despite the Hammers having the ball in the net inside 60 seconds.

The offside flag had denied West Ham that earlier opener, while it was their goalkeeper Kinga Szemik who was proving a thorn in City’s side at the other end.

Spectacular saves from Hemp, one from distance and the other close-range, meant the game went into the final 20 minutes with City still holding just a single goal lead.

However, the introduction of Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw from the bench had an almost instant impact as the Jamaican stole a loose ball and found Fowler with a pinpoint cross.

The Australian duly rose highest to double the advantage and secure the points for City, though Leila Ouahabi also went close to a sublime third when she rifled the ball against the visitors’ bar from distance.
