Kevin De Bruyne gave City a first half lead after Joe Hart saved a Zlatan Ibrahimovic penalty, but the Swede levelled before the break when he capitalised on Fernando’s error.

Adrian Rabiot then tapped in to give PSG the lead, but Fernandinho rescued a draw for Pellegrini’s men when he pounced to lash home a loose ball from inside the area.

In the return leg at the Etihad Stadium, De Bruyne scored a fine goal to send City through to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
