We welcomed the Spanish giants to the Etihad Stadium for the completion of yet another knockout tie between the sides, having met in six of the last seven seasons.
After a 3-0 defeat in Madrid the week before, Pep Guardiola’s side had it all to do.
However, Guardiola and his players had spoken in the days leading up to the game that they were full of belief we could turn it around and reach the last eight.
Having progressed in two of the previous five knockout ties between the clubs and won at the Bernabeu earlier in this campaign, there was precedent that we’d be able to claim the result against Alvaro Arbeloa’s side.
