EDS Lead Coach Ben Wilkinson spoke of his immense pride after watching his young charges clinch the Premier League 2 title with a 2-0 win over Southampton in Thursday’s play-off final.

Goals from Divin Mubama and Ashton Muir saw the City Under-21s seal what was a fourth PL2 title win in five years.

It also came hard on the heels of the young Blues topping the PL2 table in the regular 20-game season.

And as he reflected on a night to remember at the Joie Stadium, Wilkinson said securing the title served as a fitting reward for the efforts of players and staff alike over the past 10 months.

“We are all really, really happy,” said the City EDS Lead Coach.

“More than anything I think it justifies the work we have done all year.

“For the boys you don’t want to get this far and slip at the final hurdle, and I thought it was a really, really mature performance.

“It has been a long hard season so to finish off and get two trophies is a great reward.

“There have also been some great opportunities to stretch the players and put them in the environment we want them to experience.

“So, I think everyone can be really, really proud.”
