Ben Wilkinson says defender Stephen Mfuni has a 'top' character and personality after the defender's dramatic Premier League 2 equaliser against Southampton.

The 17-year-old completed a dramatic second half turnaround for our Elite Development Squad as we overcame a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 at the Joie Stadium.

Mfuni was part of the City squad who beat Huddersfield in midweek, on Friday his clinical right-footed effort, alongside goals from Matty Warhurst and Justin Oboavwoduo, earned Wilkinson’s side a deserved point.

And our Head Coach says the defender’s desire to constantly improve will stand him in good stead as he looks to continue his rapid development at City.

MATCH REPORT: CITY 3-3 SOUTHAMPTON

“From a technical perspective, it’s a fantastic goal. I think the thing that pleased me most about Stephen though is his character and his attitude.

“It’s not something I’d always want from him to be that high up and shooting but his personality and character to compete and want to help the team is top.

“That, for me, gives him a real good chance of having a top career because he has a fierce desire to get better and be a footballer.

“An outstanding individual action, but it’s reflective of his character, I think.”
