Ben Wilkinson believes Reigan Heskey has an ‘unbelievable chance’ of becoming a top player but has challenged the 16-year-old to build on his Premier League 2 hat-trick against Norwich City.

The winger came off the bench at half-time and helped the Blues stay top of PL2 with a 5-0 success over the Canaries, our seventh in a row in the league.

Heskey completed his treble in just 22 second half minutes, building on Emilio Lawrence’s early effort at the Joie Stadium before Will Dickson rounded things off in stoppage time.

Wilkinson was delighted by his impact from the bench, and believes he deserves all the credit for what was a memorable night in his young career.

“He’s got an unbelievable chance to be a top player. He has a lot of attributes you’d look for in someone of his position,” the boss explained.

“To come on in an EDS game as a 16-year-old and score a hat-trick isn’t something you see very often.

“He deserves a lot of credit but it’s 45 minutes of football. He scored an outstanding goal the other night and know what a talent he is.

“Our job is to steer him in the right direction over the next couple of years and not let him get too high in these moments.

“I’m sure he’ll have some bumps as well. We’ll make sure he doesn’t get too low in that point and just try to keep him on track.”
