Lead coach Ben Wilkinson said he's looking for a strong reaction on Sunday against Everton following a 3-1 Premier League International Cup defeat to AS Monaco.

The Young Blues failed to reach the knockout stage after a disappointing result at the Joie Stadium.

Goals from Oumar Konate and Kevin Sitou saw the visitors in a comfortable position at the break.

Konate then secured his brace less than ten minutes into the second half and it looked as if City’s fate was sealed.

Ryan McAidoo fired home to record a late consolation goal, but it wouldn’t be enough to secure our passage further in the competition.

“It was a difficult night for us and we got off to a poor start by conceding a goal early on,” said Wilkinson.

“I’ve spoken before how we need to be more ruthless in this competition and we missed an opportunity before that.

“Obviously the first goal is important in a game like this, so it was disappointing to go 1-0 down, but then to concede off a set piece in injury time in the first half is really disappointing.”

Looking ahead to Everton in the Premier League 2 this weekend, he added: “We need a reaction and we need to be better.

“The performance tonight for the first time in a while dropped below the standards and we need to see a reaction on Sunday.”
