Elite Development Lead Coach Ben Wilkinson says he thought his team was 'excellent' in our hard-fought 2-0 Premier League 2 triumph over Liverpool.

After a tense first half, Floyd Samba’s close-range strike was the only decisive moment in the game.

It meant three points were still all to play for in the second half, with both teams showcasing why they are deemed to be two of the best sides in the country.

City, who now have five successive clean sheets, were tested defensively before snatching the chance to double our lead.

Isaiah Dada-Mascoll headed home Ryan McAidoo’s corner to ultimately put the game out of Liverpool and move us to fifth in the PL2 standings.

MATCH REPORT | CITY 2-0 LIVERPOOL

For Wilkinson, it was another performance he and his coaching staff are proud of as we continue to go from strength to strength in the business end of the 2025/26 campaign.

“I thought we were excellent,” began Wilkinson.

“I thought the team is really maturing. I thought the first half display was really good. I thought we were really hungry, very good without the ball, high press was really good. We put them under a lot of pressure.

“The only disappointing thing in the first half was probably that we only come in 1-0 up.

“I thought for 45 minutes we were excellent, controlled the game, created opportunities and looked like a real hungry team. So I was really pleased with that.

“And then we played against a good team that we knew would probably improve in the second half.

“And it was tough in the second half. Again, probably could have been a bit more ruthless when we had transition moments. But it was nice to get the second goal when we got it.

“It just gave us a little bit more breathing space. And then back end of the game we were either really good or a bit sloppy with the way we tried to keep the ball in those moments.

“So things for us to get better at but overall a really pleasing night.”
