Elite Development Squad Lead Coach Ben Wilkinson says he enjoyed the attitude his team showed throughout our fantastic 6-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Our young boys in blue put on a clinical display at the Joie Stadium on Friday night in a result that has seen us move to seventh, six points off the top spot.

Kaden Braithwaite opened up City’s account with his first-ever PL2 goal on 11 minutes.

It took City a little while to break down Wolves again, but our second finally came on 43 minutes when Sverre Nypan placed his shot into the bottom-left corner to also get his PL2 goalscoring off the mark.

He helped put City firmly in the driving seat in the second half when he bagged his second, City’s third, of the night.

And Wilkinson’s side completed a clinical evening with a Ryan McAidoo strike and Matty Warhurst brace to seal the deal.

Wilkinson attributed the impressive performance to his players having the right attitude from start to finish.

“Yeah a really good performance. I enjoyed the attitude of the team right from the start of the game. I thought we were really hungry without the ball, really clear on what we wanted to try and do with the ball. I thought the first half was tight,” said Wilkinson.

“I thought the first half was tight, I thought they [Wolves] gave a really good account of themselves in the first half and made it difficult for us.

“A bit of quality to make it 2-0 probably makes it a lot harder for them in the second half.

“I feel like we almost got our rewards for our first half performance in the second half. We were really clinical, really incisive, outstanding on high press. I think two maybe three of the goals came from high press.

“and also other opportunities. So yeah as an all-round performance that was pleasing and obviously 6-0 is comprehensive but it was more the other bits around the goals and everything that made me happy.”
