City Under-18s head coach Ben Wilkinson believes his side’s performance against Manchester United can provide a “marker” for the rest of the season, after a 4-1 victory in the Under-18s Premier League North.

Young winger, Farid Alfa-Ruprecht, opened the scoring after he tapped in from Luca Fletcher’s squared ball early in the first-half.

Straight into the second-half, Ashton Muir finished from Justin Oboavwoduo’s squared ball, before a counter attack set Alfa-Ruprecht free as he tucked away a composed finish to secure his brace.

An own-goal from Manchester United’s Jaydan Kamason off a corner made it four for City, but Ethan Williams powerful strike late on to deny us of a clean sheet.

City inflicted a first league defeat of the season and closed the gap to 10 points on the visitors.

When asked how he would rank his team’s performance the City U18’s head coach responded positively.

“Right up there,” Wilkinson expressed.

“We’ve had some different challenges this year, and some really tough away games in different competitions.

“But I think in terms of an all-round package of what we want to see here in terms of the game style, individuals, energy, intensity and effort I think it was right up there as one of the best games we have played.

“It can be marker for what we want to do for the last six to eight weeks of the season.”
