Under-18s head coach Ben Wilkinson was proud of the resilience shown by City to come back from one goal down to beat Southampton 2-1 at St Mary’s Stadium.

Victory in front of a 13,035-strong crowd ensured City retained the Under-18s Premier League National title for a record-breaking third consecutive season.

Goals from Tai Sodje and Dire Mebude were enough to retain the title, cancelling out Kamari Doyle’s early opener.

Reflecting on the result, Wilkinson felt his side were fully deserving of our title triumph.

“(I’m) delighted, it’s a great way to finish the league season,” he explained.

“I think we’ve deserved it over the course of the league season, we’ve certainly got better as the season has gone on.

“To come down here tonight and go 1-0 down as well, it was a bit of a test in character.

“(I’m) really proud of the boys and everyone in the academy.”
