Ben Wilkinson praised his players after a ‘really difficult game’, as City beat West Ham United 2-1 to win the Under-18 Premier League National title.

On a special night at the Etihad between the north and south Under-18 Premier League champions, it was the visitors who struck first through Gideon Kodula’s 30th minute strike.

After an attacking second half, City’s Justin Oboavwoduo saw his 75th minute header roll past Hammers goalkeeper, Finlay Herrick, before smashing in his match-winning second in extra time.

And the celebrations began as City celebrated sealing their third successive national title on a historic night.

It was also two titles in two years for Wilkinson, who praised his players in what was the toughest of assignments for his side.

“Yeah, really, really sweet,” the City Under-18s head coach began.

“I think the level of opposition was probably the best we’ve played over the last couple of years, it was a really difficult game.

“I’m really proud of the players in terms of the way we were trying to play and what we wanted to do.

“I thought we grew stronger as the game went on and am just really proud of what the boys have achieved.”
