Ben Wilkinson believes his EDS side will continue to keep improving following a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.

City made it four successive wins in Premier League 2 with an emphatic performance at the Joie Stadium.

Emilio Lawrence, Farid Alfa-Ruprecht and William Dickson were on target in the first half before Justin Oboavwoduo wrapped up with the three points with a superb finish.

After an opening day defeat at Liverpool, City have bounced back in style and Wilkinson wants his squad to keep getting better.

“I always though the start of the season was going to be tricky with the lack of game time in preseason we were perhaps a bit behind other teams,” the EDS coach said.

“But I’m confident in this group of players that as the season progresses, we’ll grow into it. Historically we get better at the season goes on and players understand their roles and become more confident in what we’re trying to do.

“With and without the ball, I could see that tonight in certain aspects of the game and I’m confident that will continue.”

Nico O’Reilly and Jacob Wright were back in the starting line-up after appearing for the first team in the 2-1 Carabao Cup victory over Watford at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

The move between the two teams helped by a similar playing style and Wilkinson says the players are learning the roles and responsibilities of each position.

“At [Manchester] United last week and tonight, without the ball, pressing high up the pitch I thought we did really well,” he added.

“We got a lot of turnovers in their territory which gets you on the front foot. The wide players were impressive, understanding what we want and buying into it, high intensity running.

“In all areas of the pitch, the lads have clarity of what’s expected of them and hopefully game by game they improve and we’re seeing that.”
