Elite Development Squad head coach Brian Barry-Murphy says Saturday’s return to competitive action at home to PL2 leaders Arsenal represents the perfect challenge for City.

After a near two-month break for the World Cup finals, City’s Under-23s – who are the reigning PL2 champions – play host to the Gunners at the Academy Stadium in a game that will also be televised live on CITY+ and Recast

It promises to be one of the most eagerly-awaited matches of the season. Arsenal currently lead the way in PL2 on 23 points from 11 games but third-placed City are just two points behind and chasing hard on their heels.

“It’s brilliant for us. You are looking to establish your rhythm and momentum but that’s easily said and much harder to achieve against a team that is top of the league,” Barry-Murphy said.

“But we’ve probably gone under the radar a bit this season, so for our guys to get the chance to test themselves against the leaders will be great for us all and give us a real indicator of where we are physically.

“The games will come thick and fast once we get going and our players will have to get up to speed really quickly.”

Kick-off for our EDS is at 1pm on Saturday with CITY+ and Recast subscribers able to enjoy live coverage of the game.
