Brian Barry-Murphy is proud of how his side handled a lively atmosphere in our first UEFA Youth League match of the season away to Sevilla.

The hosts took an early lead through Diego Hormigo, but our Elite Development Squad responded through Carlos Borges just before the break.

And City would take control in the second half, with further strikes from Adedire Mebude and Will Dickson, plus another brace from Borges, set the seal on a convincing 5-1 victory.

Reflecting on the result and performance, Barry-Murphy believes the manner in which his side weathered the atmosphere in Seville and recovered from an early setback will have offered his players a valuable learning experience.

He said: “One of the key takeaways from last season [in the UEFA Youth League] was going to the different stadiums and facing the home team and their supporters.

“It’s very good for our players in terms of how they deal with that. We were a little surprised by the conditions we faced in the first half and the intensity of the opponents and hostility of the crowd.

“But for us to adapt and come through in the second half is pleasing and obviously stands us in good stead for the rest of the group.”
