We welcome Sunderland to the City Football Academy for a 12:30 (UK) kick-off on Saturday 22 February with our clash available to watch live on CITY+.
The 17-year-old has been working his way back to full fitness after missing almost half of the 2024/25 campaign through injury.
But, after putting in a strong 90-minute performance in our last league outing – which saw City beat Nottingham Forest 4-0 – and picking up an assist, Dunbar-McDonald is raring to go for our upcoming match.
“I feel like I’m starting to get my full fitness back now so every opportunity I get to play is an opportunity to get a goal or an assist to help the team,” began Dunbar-McDonald.
“Hopefully we can bring our game to Sunderland and continue progressing in the league.”
It’s Dunbar-McDonald’s second season with the Under-18s. He made a total of 15 league appearances under now Elite Development Squad Lead Coach Ben Wilkinson.
Known for his pace, trickery, clinical strikes and passing, Dunbar-McDonald is hoping to bring all of those attributes for the rest of the current campaign to hopefully help City win the league title, something he was disappointed on missing out on last season.
“It’s a great feeling because last year we fell short to United and now we’re neck and neck again,” said Dunbar-McDonald when asked about how he is feeling in the midst of a title race.
“To gain the edge against Sunderland will help us get another three points and push us further away from United. It would be a great experience to win some silverware.”
