Christian McFarlane says he was buzzing to get off the mark for City's Academy, scoring in our 6-0 UEFA Youth League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The full-back scored City’s third of the evening and helped Ben Wilkinson’s side earn an equally important clean sheet in our final home game of the League Phase.

The 18-year-old joined the Academy in January 2025, and after taking some time to settle into life in Manchester, following his move from New York City, the defender is certainly enjoying his football in what is his first full season representing City.

McFarlane has played eight games in all competitions in 2025/26, but his run of match minutes was hindered by a short injury.

But his return on Tuesday evening was marked with a fantastic performance, including his first goal.

“I’m buzzing for the win, for the score, it just shows all the work we did in preparation for the game,” began McFarlane.

“I honestly am lost for emotions [and words]. I couldn’t believe I scored I was like ‘oh wow it actually went in!’.

“I knew I was going to cut in because I knew the guy was going one way. And then I thought I should shoot on my right but then I was like I might as well shoot on my left, I had so much time,” McFarlane continued with a big smile.

“We spoke about togetherness, Ben always keeps saying it, so it was really nice to have all my team-mates congratulate me.”
