Ben Wilkinson’s Elite Development Squad began 2026 with a bang.
First half goals from Reigan Heskey, Ashton Muir and Justin Oboavwoduo put City 5-0 up inside the opening 39 minutes.
Vernon Masara pulled one back for Burnley, in what would later prove to be just a consolation because City continued to push for more goals in the second half.
And the final 45 minutes was all about City’s substitutions.
MATCH REPORT | CITY 8-1 BURNLEY
Mamad Sangare restored our five-goal lead before Matty Warhurst tapped home from close range courtesy of fellow substitute Christian Dunbar-McDonald.
The latter then added his name to the scoresheet to complete the evening for City, with a fine left-footed finish from close range.
The triumph at the Joie Stadium sees City climb to seventh in the table, four points clear of the top and 10 games left to play in the League Phase as we look to secure our place in the play-offs for a second successive season.
