On the hunt for our 14th successive league win of the campaign to help City stay top of the table, Oliver Reiss’s side welcomed Sunderland to the City Football Academy on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Despite the visitors having a vital chance inside the opening minute, it would be our Under-18s who took an early lead.
Divine Mukasa nodded home a fantastic Finlay Gorman cross on five minutes for his 13th league goal in 15 games.
MATCH REPORT | CITY 2-0 SUNDERLAND
City instantly won back possession when Sunderland got the game back under way. Ryan McAidoo nutmegged and danced around a flurry of Sunderland bodies before firing a low, right-footed effort into the bottom right corner in a fantastic solo goal from the 16-year-old.
The second half, however, proved to be a different test for City.
Sunderland enjoy more of the ball and chances than Reiss’s side, something they have not experienced often this season. But the defensive line, plus some important saves by Max Hudson, helped City shut out Sunderland to confirm a tricky 2-0 win.
