And here he reflects on 2022 in a wide-ranging interview.
Barry-Murphy, appointed as lead coach of the EDS in the summer of 2021, discusses a host of topics surrounding the Under-23 side.
Having claimed a maiden PL2 title in 2020/21, under the stewardship of Barry-Murphy, our Under-23s achieved the hugely impressive feat of retaining the crown in 2021/22.
A host of exciting young talent illuminated the season – and the work of our Academy coaching staff drew praise and admiration from first team boss Pep Guardiola.
Not only that, though, several of these exciting young players have also gone on to make their senior first team debuts, like Rico Lewis.
He talks about that feat of retaining the PL2 crown and also discusses how well the team are doing this season as they aim for a third successive title, as we currently sit top two points ahead of Chelsea at the summit.

He discusses the example set by graduate Lewis, who’s fast becoming an important member of City’s first team squad.
Barry-Murphy calls Lewis a ‘clear signpost’ for young players to aspire to – and stresses his progress is an example of what the Academy’s job is – providing a ‘clear pathway’ for players.
He also touches on the need for the players to focus on ‘developing every aspect of their game’ first and foremost as well as striving for honours.
There’s lot more, too, in his 15 minute interview.
