Max Fry rose highest for the Saints corner on 36 minutes to restore Southampton’s lead, before Oyekunle made it 3-1 before half-time.
City had an uphill climb ahead of them, but the young boys in blue were ready to take it on.
The comeback began with a composed Justin Oboavwoduo finish on 67 minutes, before a sublime right-footed effort from Stephen Mfuni curled into the top right corner.
A final few chances for City were blocked and saved as the points were shared at full-time.
