Jacob Wright says City’s Under-19s are ready to kick on in the UEFA Youth League after Tuesday’s fine 4-0 win away at Slovan Bratislava.

The midfielder bagged a brace of goals with Matty Warhurst and Matty Henderson-Hall also on target as Ben Wilkinson’s side recorded out first win in this season’s competition in the Slovak capital.

It was the ideal way to bounce back from a 4-2 loss at home to Inter in our opening European game and Wright says the squad are determined to maintain that standard going forward in the competition.

“I think we controlled the game - we didn’t them too many opportunities to hurt us and, of course, it’s always good to get on the scoresheet,” Wright reflected.

“They defended well in the first half but to score through a penalty just before half-time really gave us a boost and they had to come out more which meant space opened up for us in the second half.

“We need to be in the top 16 to get into the UEFA Youth League knockout stages and we want to do as well as possible in the remaining games to make sure we are up there.”
