Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad forward Jaden Heskey has paid tribute to his 15-year-old brother Reigan after he opened the scoring on his UEFA Youth League debut against Young Boys.

With a number of EDS regulars representing England at the U17 World Cup, Brian Barry-Murphy provided several players from younger age groups with a chance to impress.

One such player was Under-18 captain Heskey’s brother, Reigan, who made an instant impact when he slotted home from the spot inside ten minutes at the Joie Stadium.

An impressive free-kick from Mahamadou Susoho and second half strike from Matthew Henderson-Hall sealed a 3-0 win as City edged closer to qualification for the knockout stages.

But it was Heskey’s strike which set the tone for an important victory, with Jaden admitting there was never any doubt in his mind that his young brother would deliver from 12 yards.

He also expressed his personal pride at Regan’s ability to handle the pressure after reflecting on the moment he found out that he’d be lining up alongside his sibling.

Heskey reflected: “It was mad. He was actually at school at the time and found out there, then I got a text off my mum saying he was playing, then we found out today that he was starting.

“It was a big surprise, but it was good.

“I had confidence in him, he won it himself and he’s normally very good at penalties.

“I didn’t think the atmosphere would get to him too much.”
