Justin Oboavwoduo spoke of his delight after scoring a hat-trick in City Under-19s’ hard-fought 3-0 UEFA Youth League win over Sparta Prague.

Ben Wilkinson’s side entered the fixture looking to build on our win over Slovan Bratislava in our previous assignment in the competition and the forward broke the deadlock in the ninth minute at the Joie Stadium.

Despite our early advantage the contest remained even before the England youth international doubled our advantage 10 minutes before the interval.

Oboavwoduo then completed a fine personal and collective afternoon for the Blues when sealing his treble and a vital three points for our young charges in the closing stages.

And the 18-year-old paid tribute to his team-mates as our Under-19s moved up to ninth in the League Phase table.

“I’m delighted to score a hat-trick to help the team win the game,” he declared.

“Ultimately, I’m happy to get three points and progress further up the table. The team is very important for us to play well and win games. Collectively today we did and moved the ball well.

“They were aggressive in the way they wanted to press but we moved quickly to exploit the spaces and I think that’s what led us to creating the chances and me scoring a hat-trick.

“We knew they would come aggressive to us and that if we could beat the press we’d have areas to exploit so I think we did that quite successfully.

“We had to match their determination and aggressiveness and weather their attacks because we knew they could pose a threat on the counter attack.

“From us in and out of possession we did well to limit their threats and create chances of our own.”
