Elite Development Squad defender Lakyle Samuel says he is delighted to have scored City’s equaliser in our 1-1 draw with Juventus on Wednesday afternoon.

Juventus midfielder Patryk Mazur put the hosts ahead inside the opening 20 minutes before Samuel’s fine finish on 34 minutes.

The defender showcased his ability to move up and down the right flank, overloading Juventus’s third with bodies which allowed him to find a pocket of space to turn and shoot.

And it turned out to be our final goal in the League Phase with City’s Under-19s placing 11th in the standings to secure a place in the knockout stage of the prestigious competition.

And Samuel believes our performances against tough European opponents has showcased our ambitions to go as far as we can in the Youth League.

“I hit it and I don’t know why I just hit it and honestly I didn’t really know where it was going to go but when I saw it go into the back of the net I was just delighted,” said Samuel after the match.

“We’ve had a few strong games. We’ve had some convincing wins but then other than that the two games we played away and the first home game were quite tough so I feel like we’ve done well to keep momentum through the tournament and bounce back from losses.”
