Lauris Coggin was singing the praises of his young everchanging Under-18 Premier League North side's development as we beat Burnley 2-1.

It’s been yet another busy week for the young Blues, with a 2-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League Cup setting the tone of the week.

With Dexter Oliver’s recent involvement with the men’s first team squad against Brighton and multiple Under-18s players stepping up to play for the Elite Development Squad, we saw Rafa Stewart and Ethan Fullen make their first starts under Coggin.

And the Under-16s who stepped up took the opportunity in their stride, facing the challenge head on while integrating perfectly into the side with the City manager explaining he is impressed with how we’ve developed as a team so far this season.

“I think the word development is the biggest part,” he said on his side’s pitch perfect start to the season.

“Again, we fielded another young side, which seems to be everchanging, but the foundation, the core of togetherness and hard work is clear for everyone to see and the boys got what they thoroughly deserved.

“It was a little bit difficult, nerve-wracking - the last half an hour - given us playing with 10 men, but I think you’re seeing us compete, different challenges game by game and the boys have been fantastic so really pleased.”
