Under-18s defender Leke Drake says the FA Youth Cup is the pinnacle competition of youth football and believes triumph over Manchester United would prove City are one of the best squads in the country.

The 18-year-old has played every minute for Oliver Reiss’ side in the prestigious competition this term.

He’s helped City concede just five goals in five games, keeping some of the best attacking threats in the country at bay as our young Blues advanced to a third successive FA Youth Cup final.

And ahead of our showpiece clash at the Joie Stadium on Thursday 14 May, with kick-off set for 19:00 (UK) against our cross-city rivals, Drake expressed his excitement ahead of his final outing in the competition.

“I had a taste of it [FA Youth Cup] last year being in and around it but to play as much as I have [this term] and the opposition that we faced, Arsenal, Chelsea, some of the best teams in the country, I think it’s a really good chance to show we are one of the best teams in the country,” said Drake.

“I think we proved it in the North by winning the league. But I think the FA Youth Cup is the chance to show we are the best team in the country.

“[And] it would mean so much [to win it], especially being against United. I think we’ve worked so hard in the season, all the highs and lows so it would mean so much just to have that ending and sort of send-off for the season.”
