Having lost our previous league outing to Sunderland before the winter break, Ben Wilkinson’s side knew it was imperative to pick up three points to apply pressure to league leaders Manchester United.
Thanks to a wonderful first-half hat-trick from Matty Warhurst, we did just that at the City Football Academy.
Our young forward broke the deadlock early on when he tucked Farid Alfa-Ruprecht‘s low cross into the net before doubling his tally inside 10 minutes when firing home after good work from Ashton Muir.
The Potters, though, were keen to reflect their quality on proceedings and did just that shortly after to half the deficit when Ali Hayder cashed in on an uncharacteristic Jack Wint error to poke into an empty net.
However, City regained our two-goal lead just before the interval, and with it the match ball for Warhurst, when he raced into the box and drilled into the back of the net.
