In the month that we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the opening of the City Football Academy, we took our Academy Director along with two of our talented EDS cohort on a thought-provoking return visit to the Club’s former Platt Lane training base.
The famous site in Fallowfield is firmly embedded in City folklore.
Platt Lane served as the Club’s fondly remembered former first team training venue for more than 20 years before then becoming the home for City’s burgeoning Academy up until 2014.
The facility is still in regular use to this day and is now overseen by Manchester’s Metropolitan University with the facilities also being enjoyed by the wider community.
For Thomas the return to Platt Lane, situated a stone’s throw from our former Maine Road stadium, marked an emotional and thought-provoking trip back to where his City journey first began as a young aspiring coach back at the turn of the Millennium.
Meanwhile Platt Lane was also the venue where Lakyle and Jaden’s own fledgling City careers were first nurtured at a very young age after they joined the Academy.

For all three, the memories and recollections came flooding back as they reflected on their time at Platt Lane – and also about the memorable journey City’s Academy has undertaken since the inception of the CFA.
All three acknowledged the special place Platt Lane still holds in their hearts as well as how remembering our roots and history serves as the very essence of what Manchester City stands for.
Thomas also came armed with one special piece of City memorabilia that will forever remind him of Platt Lane!
