It proved an afternoon of frustration for Ben Wilkinson’s youngsters as the Italians claimed the spoils.
City made a flying start thanks to Farid Alfa-Ruprecht’s second minute strike, but the visitors then hit back in lethal fashion by claiming three goals inside 10 minutes through Thomas Berenbruch, Matteo Lavelli (penalty) and Christos Alexiou.
Alfa-Ruprecht struck again at the start of the second half to narrow the deficit and give City renewed hope.
But though City dominated territory and possession it was Inter who struck again late on with Berenbruch claiming his second goal to ensure the three points went the visitors’ way.
