Will Dickson insisted the only goal of City’s victory over Sevilla was his as the EDS rounded off their UEFA Youth League group stage with a 1-0 win.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side had already qualified for the last-16 by topping Group G with a game to spare ahead of the final game at the Academy Stadium.

A tight affair was settled by a single strike on the stroke of half-time when Sevilla defender Alvaro Diaz Garamendi turned the ball into his own net. But like all good strikers, Dickson tried to claim it.

“I’m a striker so of course I’m going to claim that goal!” he said.

City had to be patient for their opportunities with Sevilla, who lost 5-1 to the EDS in the opening game in Spain and were happy to sit back and play on the counter-attack.

And Dickson believes it shows how much their side are respected after finishing the group stage unbeaten.

“We knew that coming into the game that they were going to sit off and they would be difficult to break down,” Dickson added.

“We just had to keep doing what we do and we knew that eventually that the goal would come.”

With qualification secured, the Youth League is now hold onto February when the EDS will play in the knockout stages for the first time since the 2017/18 season.
