Max Hudson says the Under-18s team is a ‘great group’ who work hard for each other and Saturday’s tough 2-0 win over Sunderland was proof of the team’s comradery.

The shot stopper earned his 10th Under-18 Premier League appearance in the clash with the Black Cats and helped our young boys in blue pick up a seventh clean sheet in the competition.

It was another vital win, courtesy of first half strikes from Divine Mukasa and Ryan McAidoo, to help City stay two points clear at the top of the league table.

But, just as important as scoring goals, Hudson pulled off a handful of fantastic saves to keep out our opponents who enjoyed more chances and time on the ball than City in the second half.

And Hudson was quick to credit his defensive team-mates and the squad in general for helping him grind through tough test.

“It wasn’t our best performance but moments like that where you’re grinding out performances you just have to keep going,” said Hudson.

“There could have been a slip up today, Sunderland were a good side but to get the three points and another clean sheet is something we can build on.

“We’re happy, we can definitely play better but I can’t fault the performance.

“There is no one else I’d rather play with. They make me comfortable in goal, it makes my job easier if they are putting in blocks and tackles so yeah I’m happy with it [the clean sheet].

“It’s a great group of lads, a great team on and off the pitch.”
