Under-18s goalkeeper Max Hudson says our 2023/24 FA Youth Cup win helped keep him and his team-mates focused on beating Crystal Palace in our third-round clash.

Our 1-0 win over the Eagles was our first outing in the competition in the 2024/25 campaign and it was also Hudson’s debut in the prestigious competition.

But the 17-year-old looked right at home in the Joie Stadium as he helped City maintain a clean sheet with some quick-reaction saves with no potential nerves on show throughout the match.

“It’s normal to have nerves,” began Hudson is his assessment of the game.

MATCH REPORT | CITY 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

“Good nerves, bad nerves [it doesn’t matter] but after seeing the boys do it last year, it gives you confidence that that could be me.

“And then hopefully follow in their footsteps of winning it like last year.

“I’m buzzing to be fair [with the result]. We knew a cup game, we had to get the job done.

“It doesn’t matter how we do it but the way we did it with a late goal and clean sheet was probably the most perfect way to do it.

“Obviously we would have liked a few more goals but we’re still into the next round.”
